Report on Competencies Project | (February 2001) |
|
Since my last report, the Stakeholders Panel on the project: National Consensus Specialty Competencies for Primary Care Nurse Practitioners met again January 18th, 2001 in Washington, DC. The purpose was to develop the final draft of the specialty competencies for distribution to the validation panel. The validation panel includes representatives of each of the following categories: the specialties, education, regulation, clinical practice, accreditation, nursing administration, and policy makers. The draft documents were circulated to the stakeholders for one last time and revisions/comments due by February, 8, 2001. Then they were sent out to the validators. The validation process should be in full swing by our meeting in March. The purpose of the final document is to describe the competencies of graduates of master's and post-master's programs preparing adult, family, geriatric, pediatric and women's health nurse practitioners at entry to practice. The specialty competencies are to be used with and are built upon the core competencies previously developed. I represented the Association of Faculties and Pat Clinton was there to represent the National Certification Board. I would like to comment that these meetings have been very productive and very collegial. It has been a pleasure to represent you and I hope you will be pleased with the results. Our next meeting to review the comments of the validators is scheduled for June 18-19, 2001 in Washington, DC. Submitted by Pam Hellings, RN, PhD, CPNP |
