May 20, 2002 Mary Champagne, PhD, RN, FAAN Jean Johnson, PhD, NP,
FAAN Co-Facilitators, NTF Dear Dr. Champagne and Dr. Johnson, On behalf
of the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, I am
pleased to write a letter of support for the newly revised Criteria for
Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs. This document is very timely
and essential to ensure the quality of all nurse practitioner (NP)
programs. My organization agrees with the philosophy behind this work and
shares its goal of excellence in NP education. It is with great enthusiasm
that we formally endorse this work. The AFPNP has long been committed to
excellence in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) education. Our Philosophy
and Terminal Competencies have guided PNP programs since 1977. It is our
hope that this new comprehensive document will be utilized in conjunction
with the newly proposed core competencies for primary care nurse
practitioners to strengthen the content of all NP programs. The NTF is to
be commended for bringing so many experts in NP education together to
collaborate on this much needed criteria which should facilitate
consistency in NP educational models. Both the process and the final
outcomes reflect much thought and consideration of the diverse needs of
many NP specialties. We will look forward to using this critical document.
Sincerely,
Michelle A. Beauchesne, DNSc, RN, CPNP |
